Tunisia took part on January 21, 2018 in the 14th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the 5+5 Dialogue on the Western Mediterranean in Algeria. TunisianForeign Minister Mr. Khemaies Jhinaoui took part in this meeting which is co-chaired by Algeria and France.
The meeting focused on the consolidation of the comprehensive and sustainable economic and social development to meet the region’s common challenges.
Several issues on the western Mediterranean, in particular the region’s security and stability and combating terrorism and extremism tackled during the meeting.
Participants also discussed strengthening co-operation in several vital fields such as youths employment, vocational training, migration and mobility, climate changes and sustainable development.
The Tunisian Foreign Minister had, on the fringes of the meeting, bilateral talks with the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Secretary-General, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Secretary-General and the European Union (EU) representative.
The 5 + 5 Dialogue brings together Spain, France, Italy, Malta and Portugal on the northern shore, as well as Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia on the southern shore.
Secretaries-general of the AMU, UfM and the EU participated in the meeting as observers.
